18-Gauge L-Cleat Flooring Nailer - Product information

Husky 18-Gauge Flooring nailer: The versatile Husky 18-Gauge Flooring nailer is the ideal tool to install your tongue and groove flooring ranging from 3/8 in. to 3/4 in. thick, solid or engineered, including the denser, exotic hardwoods like Stranded Bamboo and Brazilian Cherry. This Husky nailer utilizes the thinner 18-Gauge L-Cleats, which are less likely to split the tongue on softer, engineered flooring and allows for easier penetration when installing higher density wood flooring. Features include: no-mar base making it safe for engineered flooring and pre-finished surfaces, light strike bumper for ease of use on softer, engineered flooring, fiberglass mallet for added durability, lighter weight and non-marring head; anodized aluminum magazine for increased durability, die cast aluminum body, hardened steel drive blade to increase longevity and swivel air connector for hassle free mobility. The Husky 18-Gauge Flooring nailer is the best choice for installing the majority of solid or engineered tongue and groove wood flooring.

  • No-mar design provides increased protection from marring when working with a finished flooring surface
  • Ergonomically designed handle for ease of operation and reduced fatigue
  • Anodized aluminum magazine for long lasting durability
  • Lightweight and durably constructed of high-strength aluminum and heat treated steel parts
  • Fiberglass mallet with rubber head included
  • Air filter keeps interior debris free and extends tool life
  • Ideal for engineered and exotic/dense flooring

Product was exactly as described online, and order arrived quickly. After opening box, I was up and running within 5 minutes. Simple to use, and parts change out easily. I have done half of my flooring project and not a single issue, so smooth work.

Paid for itself instead of getting rental
I found this at my local store for $75.00 . I used it for about 800 sq. ft of 3/4" hickory. The nailer performed flawlessly. As another reviewer mentioned, it is possible to drive cleats into the surface of the wood as the nailer may catch the tongue when not aligned properly. This was completely my fault, I wasn't used to the nailer. It is clearly marked in red where the tongue should be aligned with the nail gun. The mallet was well balanced & felt good in hand. It was cheaper for me to buy this than rent a nailer for 48 hours. No regrets with my purchase. I will never use a manual nailer again!
I was initially worried that the plastic plate would leave marks on the dark stained, prefinished hardwood floor I was installing, it never left any.
When friend was racking flooring for me, I was able to fly through the open areas of my floor, no jams in just over 3,000 cleats.

Very Strudy and Well Built
My one complaint about this nailer is the way the plates line up with the hardwood floor. I laid down 3/4 Oak. I noticed that i was sending come nails on top of the wood instead on top of the tongue.I was using the 3/4 plates but it catches on a different part of the nailer. This was mainly MY FAULT but once you get going in a nice rhythm it is hard to pay attention. Other than that it was a very smooth nailer. I also used this on my hand scraped Bamboo. The 18 gauge was great for this. Flew right through the bamboo. You can give it a nice hit with the mallet (included).

Good nailer, great customer service
Bought this nailer after reading online reviews and they are all spot on (except for the one guy's jamming problems). I did 550 sqft of 3/8" stranded bamboo with no problems. It did develop a slight air leak under the cap, but it didn't affect the performance that I was able to notice. I called customer service after finishing the floor, and they are sending me a new nailer with a return label to send the old one back, no questions asked! This is the sort of customer service I honestly didn't expect, but am pleased to have received!

Leaking Air Messed Up L Cleats
This floor nailer worked for about 5 minutes, then air began to leak somewhere near the connection to the air hose. The name brand compressor was working well. I found that 100 psi worked well to drive 1 3/4 inch L cleats into 3/4 inch Brazilian Cheery hard food floor boards (on tongue groove area). After a few minutes, my L cleats were all over the place (these were name-brand Powernail L cleats). Some were sticking out 1 cm, some were going deep and cracking the tongue wood. I oiled the nailer also. I adjusted the psi, then the l cleats would stick out 1 cm or so. I could not get the floor nailer to hold a steady pressure anymore. I returned this and got a Norge floor nailer to see what would happen. The Norge floor nailer worked perfectly at around 77 psi. I hardly cracked the wooden tongue and the unit only cost about $240.

Gets the job done
Easy to use straight from the box, easy set up, comes with nails, and not too heavy or bulky so it fit easily in my hands. I only had time to do a trial run with a small closet until we are ready to lay the entire wood floor down. But it worked great and I am I confident it will do a great job on our bigger project.
Easy to read directions make it user friendly for a beginner like me. Works on 3/8 to 3/4 inch tongue and groove flooring.

Very Disappointed
It jammed on my second row of nailing. Jam fixing instructions are weak. I've basically stripped the bolts to get into the nailer. I guess I'll take it back to the Pro desk at HD and hopefully they can fix it or HD will take it back. I ended up just renting a floor nailer. No problems with that one. Disappointed.
