Incorporate a touch of contemporary style into your space with the Hampshire Gauged Slate Tile. Designed for floor and wall use, this beautiful larger rectangular tile offers elegant shades of black and gray with a random variation to provide a chic look. This GREENGUARD certified Genuine Stone tile features a textured, low-sheen finish and is suitable for both residential and commercial use, offering various sizes, designs and patterns to choose from. Please inspect all tiles before installation, as natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc., so it is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer.

Pattern problem...
Purchased about 400 sqft for our kitchen. Ordered and picked up at the store. So far there's no damage, but I'm only about a quarter through the install. Cutting the tile isn't an issue with any reasonable wet tile saw. Go slow and use a good blade to eliminate chipping.
The biggest problem is the with the sizing. As another reviewer mentioned, you will have problems with uniformity. In my case, using 1/16" spacers, all of the 8x8 tiles need to be cut down about a 1/16" off of 2 sides. Occasionally some of the 8x16 tiles need a bit off the long side. In addition there's a decent thickness variation between the 8x8 and 8x16 tiles. Generally the 8x8s are thinner while the 8x16s are thicker than the rest. Even using a leveling system (Raimondi), it can be a pain.
I like the look of the slate; however, beware of the installation problems. Using the pattern is a pain as it is. The problem is further compounded by the sizing issues.
If I had to do slate again, it would not be the patterned, gauged slate. Maybe a 12x12 or 12x24 or any other large format in uniform size.

There was an inconsistency with thicknesses. The stone is true to color (between a Navy Gray and charcoal color.) I would not call it black. When ordering pallets there were very few breaks, however when ordering cases individually up to half of the case was broken which is problematic since it's a pattern. We had to decline or return four cases. During installation our tile guy noted that they cut well and did not fall apart or crumble.

The tiles were broken and shattered on three separate shipments of two to three cases each. At least 50% of the tiles were not usable. When we ordered by palette 95% were intact. Keep in mind that although it says gauged slate, the thickness of each of the pieces is not consistent. the 8 by 8 always being thinner. The color is true to the picture it is more of a blue/charcoal slate color even after putting on impregnator sealer. Remember to seal before you grout and after.

Product itself was lovely, but we had them shipped to home and at least 6 tiles were smashed in e...Product itself was lovely, but we had them shipped to home and at least 6 tiles were smashed in every single box - and not just a small crack, but shattered. Our project was starting on the Monday so we spent the weekend finding second choice tiles that were at least available and in stock. I’m sure the carrier was careless with the product as it looked like they were packed with care at origin, but we were extremely disappointed.

I purchased these tiles to replace the 12x12" tiles on my outdoor patio set and now I do not have enough tiles when I should have had 8 extra... I am a small woman and they were a pain to haul home from the store so I will not be repackaging them and returning them. Total waste of money.

Good value, looks greatBeautiful looking tile - not one broken or damaged tile in all 18 cases - strongly recommend using a penetrating sealer like "Enrich and Seal" prior to laying to make cleanup easier. This is an expensive sealer but well worth it. Most of the tiles had a lighter gray color with some having a black look. Also, use a wet saw to cut. There were a few tiles with heavy clefting that I used under counters, stove, and fridge, but overall most were high quality. Make sure and order at least 10% extra to compensate for cuts and waste. I used black grout, modified thin set mortar and Hardie 1/4" backerboard. 1/4" x 1/4" trowel and 1/8" grout lines.

These slate floor tiles are very attractive in the hearth setting we placed them. They were easy...These slate floor tiles are very attractive in the hearth setting we placed them. They were easy to cut to the size for our application.
I would recommend these to anyone who likes the slate look. Each tile is a little different with its coloration and texture. We used
charcoal grout and that sets off the tiles very attractively

Ordered nine cases and was surprised that shipping cartons weren't...Ordered nine cases and was surprised that shipping cartons weren't marked fragile. However, each carton contained a very thick foam clam-shell nestling a carton containing the tiles themselves. Of all 45 tiles, none were cracked or broken. The slate tiles are beautiful. Well done!
