I've been slowly replacing the oak transitions in the house with these aluminum ones and really like them. I've had some of them for about two years, in high traffic areas, and they show no wear whatever. The finish appears to be highly durable. So I highly recommend them.

As much as this is a nice product, mine came with some of the wood "coloring" pealing off the met...As much as this is a nice product, mine came with some of the wood "coloring" pealing off the metal. I needed it shorter so I just figured i would trim off the pealing which lead to more pealing and knowing that I could not return it after cutting it. So if you do have to cut it be careful and realize it could peal at any point before or after you put this on.

A simple alternativeI needed transition pieces to accommodate the half-inch difference in height between my slate foyer and my living room. I would have liked specially-milled hardwood, but I felt it might exceed my skill level.
I settled for the Metaldecor carpet trim. The slate / hardwood border was angled (creating a 'v') so I simply mitered two pieces with a hacksaw and fit them together, then tacked them down. It looks fine.
I think it's a good alternative for those who want a quick and easy -- and less expensive than hardwood -- fix. The photographically-reproduced 'woodgrain' effect was good enough for this application. In this case I found its appearance less obtrusive than a brass piece would have been.
