SimpleMat 10 sq. ft. Tile Setting Mat - Product information

The quickest, easiest and cleanest way to install tile on countertops, backsplashes and shower walls. SimpleMat replaces traditional thinset mortar or mastic adhesive. The adhesive retains its bonding strength for extended periods of time, which means users have the flexibility to tile onto the mat an hour at a time or over several days. SimpleMat bonds instantly so you can start grouting immediately.

  • Used to install tile over countertops, shower walls and backsplashes
  • Adhesive bonds quickly to allow grouting almost immediately after tile installation
  • Requires no mortar or mixing for minimal mess
  • Nine 9 in. x 18 in. sheets cover approximately 10 sq. ft.
  • Suitable for interior projects

Product did what it said!
After reading other reviews I was skeptical about this product but I have never put up tile and this looked easier and faster! Also my wife likes to have things done sooner than later. I took my time with the first set-up of about 4 feet long and made sure it was secure against the wall. I used mosaic glass tiles on a sheet and saw another review saying they fell off. There was NO PROBLEM! Stuck on first application and I did not press hard so I could adjust if needed and that worked! It installed fast and put grout on immediately after. Again no problem! The only thing is be sure you are correct on your measurements because once secure on the wall it is staying and once the glass tile is pressed it does hold very well. After a couple of days of the grout drying I pulled on the tiles to see how well they were secure and they were not budging. The product did what it said! I also recommend watching some videos they have on it. That helped out a little on understanding the product.

I Hate This Product
If you enjoy working with flypaper, this is for you. Horrible product design - it has paper backing on only one side - which means it comes off the roll sticky on one side, and likes to fold back on itself as you are measuring and cutting, creating a Very Expensive lump of unusable sticky plastic. If you do manage to actually get it on the wall, it comes off the roll insanely weinkled, and you are supposed to “smooth it out” with a grout float..Huh? My neighbor’s Hummer couldn’t flatten this once it’s stuck to the wall. And good luck removing the paper backing once it’s up, since you are supposed to overlap the courses. And did I mention how expensive it is? $75 bought me less than it took to cover the top 2’ of 3 of the walls of my tiny 3’ x 5’ powder room, leaving part of the 3rd wall and the complete 4th wall bare. Thank goodness I attempted this project while my husband was away for the wknd. I can run out and buy regular thinset mortar to complete the job, and ge’ll Never know how much time and money I wasted on this.

Tiling made easy with SimpleMat
I have been using traditional methods to set wall tile and thought I would give SimpleMat a try on a backsplash project. I install a lot of self-adhesive vinyl tile so I felt right at home with this product. I recommend priming the wall first before installing SimpleMat to insure optimum adhesion. I also recommend peeling off just one side of the backing paper to make handling and aligning it a lot easier. If you are working with heavy ceramic tile, there is a good chance that they might slide down from their weight. In this instance, make sure that your bottom row of tile are securely in place and use the “hard” plastic spacers to help support the remaining rows of tile.
As with self-stick vinyl tile, you have to be very careful when placing tile on SimpleMat as you can’t reposition the tile once set in place as with mortar. All in all, I was very happy with my first experience with SimpleMat. I will certainly be using this product whenever I can on tiling projects.

Very easy to use
I was a little nervous to use this product after reading the previous reviews and learning about tiles falling. However, I never tiled before and was dealing with a tight space between the wall and a faucet so I gave this product a try. I followed the directions that came in the box, including washing all the tiles and letting them completely dry before placing them onto Simplemat. When I came back the next day none of the tiles had moved off the wall from the day before, so I then grouted. The kitchen came out great! Simplemat saved a lot of time and clean up by not having to use a thinset. The only difficulties I had was using the 30 sq. ft. roll as compared to the 10 sq ft. sheets because the roll doesn't have paper on both sides of the Simplemat, which makes cutting a little difficult. Also a word of advice, cover the Simplemat with the paper if you aren't able to tile right away because you will lose the stickiness of the product when it is left in the open air.

I have literally had tile sitting on my kitchen counter for over a year, because I couldn't find anyone to install it for me. I finally gave up and bought some kind of grout and adhesive stuff the sales guy suggested. Everything was fine until morning when half of the tiles had slid down. I ripped everything off the wall and then starting researching other ways to install.
I found SimpleMat by accident. When I found out there was such a thing my online Home Depot search said it wasn't available at my store. Wrong! It was there and I picked some up. Super easy to use! I was thrilled when I got up and the tile were still firmly in place. I was going to use them as is, but then decided to grout over the tiles. Kind of wish I hadn't done that now, but they still look great.
Now that I know it is so easy to install tiles, I am planning on using SimpleMat in my bathroom.

I installed simple mat to install my kitchen backsplash on. I was installing a 8x8 cement tile and subway tile that was 3x6. 8x8 is the maximum size to install on this mat so I knew that was taking a chance. At first I was impressed, it was really easy to put up and seemed like it was gonna work good. The 8x8 wouldn't stay in its place I had to really work with it to get it to stay in place long enough to get really stuck there. In the end the tile turned out ok but I do have one small cut of tile loose and the grout has cracked. I really feel like I may have to redo my kitchen backsplash in the future. As for the subway tile. I have had more problems with it moving than the big tile. I have lots of cracked grout on this tile. I just wouldn't recommend simple mat. I wish I would have just went the messy way at least I could trust it to hold.

This product worked especially well to tile the wall over the range between the range hood and the cabinets. As DIYers this was a tricky area to use mastic as we could not remove the range hood and the narrow glass tiles were very difficult to "butter" on the back... so tried the SimpleMat. Product was easy to cut & apply to the wall, even in the tight corners at the bottom! One word of caution - the mats are very, very sticky so you really need to leave the top covering on and dry fit the tile when you have tricky cuts as the tile bonds almost instantly and is difficult to move or shift the tile much! Glass tiles did not sag or shift at all even tho we left it for several days before grouting- we were very impressed. Would definitely use this product and absolutely recommend.

I was hesitant to try this product but after doing some research I used it. I installed 8x8 ceramic tile for a backsplash behind my range. The area was 8’ x 5’, surrounding the exhaust hood. I wanted to keep the job as neat as possible because I was working above finished cabinets, countertops, and appliances. The surface was new, primed drywall.
I carefully cleaned the wall with tsp and rinsed it. I allowed it to dry overnight. I applied the “simple mat” the next morning. It took some time to install it neatly and to assure that it was adhered properly, but there was zero mess.
That afternoon I installed the tile, and the following day the grout was completed. Not a one-day job, but a very controlled job with little
mess. I like it.
