14 in. Rip Ceramic Tile Cutter - Product information

The HDX 14 in. Tile Cutter with 1/2 in. Cutting Wheel scores and snaps wall and floor tiles. The dual, chrome-plated steel rails offer smooth scoring, while the rubber padded aluminum alloy breaker bar will not mar the tile. The heavy duty rubber pads found on the reinforced base prevent tiles from shifting during cutting. The cutter comes equipped with a replaceable 1/2 in. tungsten-carbide cutting wheel. This ceramic and porcelain tile cutter is ideal for do-it-yourself tile installation.

  • Cuts ceramic and porcelain tiles up to 14 in. square, 10 in. diagonally and 1/2 in. thick
  • High-leverage, padded handle makes cutting easier and reduces fatigue
  • Uses model 20510X, HDX 1/2 in. Tungsten Carbide Cutting Wheel Replacement
  • Cutter also includes an adjustable rip guide designed to help make repetitive cuts faster and easier

This tile cutter rips tiles effectively as long as you need the cut in a straight line across the entire width. Cannot do square or other complicated cuts - only basic straight cuts work. My tiles were 2x3 so the cuts worked great around the 1.5" to 2.5" range but always lead to cracking when out of this area. See picture for more explanation. I recommend using a wet tile saw for most use cases because you will almost always need the cuts that this saw cannot handle.

Excellent to cut thin ceramic, but not so good on thicker tile. Definitely better than the the Kobalt!

Worked great for me!
Currently flipping a 2500 sqft 1924 home with a lot of space that needs tile layed. And to go with all that tile that needs layed, there are also a lot of cuts to be performed. It worked great for my bathroom floor, a shower, and a kitchen backsplash. I also plan on using it to tile my kitchen floor as well as my other bathroom floor and shower. I was cutting 12" ceramic from home depot and it worked well for me. But it really is not that high of quality. If you have never used one of these before, it may be a little trickier for you to figure it out on this one. My advice is to just go very slow, pay attention to what you are doing, and be gentle. You should do that with any aspect of tiling anyway. And if you have a question about using it, ask a home depot associate in the tile section before you start. They seem to be the most helpful section of the store besides plumbing and will probably show (or at least explain in detail,) what you need to do.

I researched the QEP 10214Q 14 in. Rip Ceramic Tile Cutter with 1/2 in. Cutting Wheel tile cutter on Amazon, which is nearly the exact same design and size as the HDX, but a little more expensive. I didn't want to go through the process of potentially having to return the QEP cutter if it did not cut my glass tiles correctly, so I went with the HDX from my local Home Depot. This tile cutter did an AMAZING job on the little mosaic glass tiles (~1" x 3" mesh backed) I was using for a coffee table refinishing project. As long as you remember you are working with glass and use light pressure to score and snap the tiles, the results will always be 100% accurate without crushing or shattering the tiles. The only issue I encountered was that the breaker bar hung awkwardly in the way and I had to manually hold it up while scoring these extremely small tiles. On a larger tile, I am sure it would just glide over the surface. A suggestion to the manufacturer would be to improve the breaker bar design with a spring loaded catch that would hold it up in place until needed. Otherwise, this cutter is super easy to use and well worth the money spent! Great tool!

I Thought It Was Junk But....
While doing a budget tiling job on my shower I found this tool at a bargain price. The first 10 cuts or so went as expected with a few broken 12" tiles do to a learning curve, but then it started breaking every tile even after trying multiple scores.
After searching for a better unit and thinking that either the scoring wheel had dulled or the frame was bent I came across an article saying the scoring wheels sometimes stick and to use WD40. Well, mine was sticking and a little WD40 was definitely the cure. So if your tile cutter starts breaking tiles in strange patterns make certain you check the scoring wheel for easy rotation, it can save you loads of headaches!

I bought this trying to avoid buying a wet saw for my backsplash and it just didn’t work for me. I couldn’t get a straight cut no matter how hard I tried.... it’s probably a user error but I had to return and purchase an actual wet saw. It probably would work better for bigger tile ( I was using the smaller subway tile.)

Hard to obtain a straight line cut with this cutter. The tile will rock from side to side as the foam base is not quit high enough above the snap bar to maintain a level tile. A few modifications would make this a much better cutter.

Easy to use & made needed cuts effectively. I first went to the store to have some of my tiles cut, then bought the tile cutter which turned out better than having others doing it on the wet saw.
