The new DeWalt 20-Volt Max 18-Gauge Flooring Stapler (DCN682) is specifically designed for tongue and groove hardwood or engineered flooring. Until now, people installing wood flooring with power tools were tethered to an air hose and compressor. Although this is a heavy tool (compared to pneumatic staplers), the ergonomics are very good and it’s easy to use.
Equipped with a brushless motor, the new Dewalt DCN682 20 Volt Max Flooring Stapler will shoot hundreds of 18-gauge ¼ inch narrow crown staples (1/2 to 1 ½ inch) on a single charge. The tool-free adjustable base includes non-marring tips and will accommodate flooring from 3/8 to 5/8 inches. It includes a selectable switch for sequential or rapid sequential modes, and an adjustable depth adjustment dial. The ergonomics are very good and includes a comfortable paddle style trigger.
On the negative side, the DeWalt 20-Volt Max Stapler is not as fast as using a pneumatic stapler. It is better suited for smaller jobs. Overall I am very happy with the stapler and recommend it for contractors or DIY Projects.

Excellent power and tool free adjustments
Dewalt DCN682M1 20V Max XR 18 Ga Flooring Stapler – Kit
Weighing in at roughly seven pounds this is not a lightweight by any means but the way it is held while in use offsets the weighty cordless stapler, well designed and put together makes for a very nice looking tool. But does it perform?
Loading the gun up was as simple as it could have been with 18 Gauge 1/4" narrow crown staples. I was using the one inch staples to connect some old hard wood flooring off cuts in order to try it out, first at 3/8” depth and then at 5/8”. Using the Paddle trigger provided easy use for multiple orientations and the results were spot on. Continuing to operate it at one staple per trigger squeeze I switch the easy switch rapid sequential actuation mode and again it shot about a dozen staples in quick succession using the paddle trigger. Again all perfectly aligned in the hard wood, both at 3/8 and 5/8. Despite using half a box of staples (500) it never jammed so I cannot comment on how easy it is to correct it. I continued operating it at different angles and again this proved at how well this was performing with using the last of the box and at this stage I felt that the staples were not quite going into the wood as before so I recharged the supplied 4 AH battery and opened another box of staples just to make sure that it was a low battery charge, Yep, with the recharged battery, the next 200 or so staples sank in as set up.
I find this tool very easy to use and to change the depth and the angles required. Just as a curiosity I picked up a piece of 3” soft pine and tried putting a staple into it, It shot straight through and embedded itself into my work bench so be advised this is for a hard wood flooring.
Best features…
Brushless motor for extra life. Multi-functional lights are an excellent feature. Tool-free adjustment. Easy to hold and effortlessly alter angles and with a years warranty.

The more I use cordless tools the more I like not having to deal with a cord or hose. I don't think this will replace an air powered or hammer powder flooring stapler but it does have it's place. For smaller jobs or for job where you are not stapling does long strips this is nice. It works well for patterned flooring that takes time to position each piece before it gets stapled. It also is nice when there is small patch job. For strip flooring you can move much faster with a pneumatic or impact stapler, the cycle time for the this is just too slow and the stapler is not as balanced. You can't move along as quickly, plus I think you would need to have a few spare batteries for anything but small jobs. I also feel that pneumatic or impact staplers have more power for harder woods, but I did not have any issues when I tried it on maple and oak flooring.
Again it has its place, it's not for laying 1000's of feet of flooring, nice for closets, borders, repairs. Basically anywhere the speed of stapling is not the main concern.

Perfection!
I was in the market for a flooring stapler to install some engineered hardwood flooring and came across this stapler. Decided to spend a few extra dollars and get this vs. a cheaper alternative option. I am glad I bought this stapler. The included battery lasted a long time and I didn't have any malfunctions when installing 400+ square feet of flooring. After a few minutes of setting up for the flooring I was putting down, it worked flawlessly and did not dimple the pre-finished flooring at all. I would recommend this stapler for anyone in the market for one.

I have a collection of Dewalt tools and mostly rate them better than 4-stars, but I could not give this clunky floor stapler higher. The problem I have is mostly how the grip feels in my XXXL hands. This tool is pretty heavy with the battery installed and especially if you use the better 5 amp battery which is a bit more heavy. Comparing this battery tool to other brands seems very similar as it is necessary for the large motor head. A big plus with a battery tool is there's no cord or air hose. I would have thought that the floor angle attachment would be easily removable to be able to staple near the wall like a standard stapler gun, but the plastic floor guide attachment is not easily removable. So, in several areas I had to run the air hose to my little Hatachi stapler. Otherwise, this Dewalt floor stapler drives 1-1/4 in. staples in T&G subfloor osb and oak planks very efficiently and quickly. Most people don't remember the big old mechanical machine that used square nails and had to be struck with a big special hammer. Those days were not the good-ol-days. So, this max lithium-ion operated flooring tool is now the good-ol-days.

Problems with jamming and height adjustment
I bought this Dewalt 18-gauge floor stapler DCN682B as a special order through lowes in feb 2018. I bought it to do 2 rooms in 5/8” engineered hardwood that I purchased from Baird Brothers Lumber in Ohio. (Great flooring).
I installed the first room (240 sq Ft) over the past 2 days (April 21 & 22).
Overall I like the tool, but I had 2 main issue; jamming and no real depth adjustment.
The jamming was obviously the biggest issue. I probably had to pull a nail out of the nailer every 3 rows. I was using Dewalt brand 1 1/2” staples. The hammer pin probably got stuck down 6 times on this 240 sq room.
The depth adjustment changes the distance the engagement triggers are from the grove in the wood. So if you want to bring the staple closer to the surface, the adjustment pushes the tools engagement triggers farther out which means the left and right side white guides are now farther away from the grove and the no longer seat properly. This makes the tool wobble and I believe adds to the jamming issues.
I ended up adjusting the staple depth for the deepest setting because that allowed me the most secure footing with the tool. In fact I couldn’t really properly adjust the DCN682B for the
height of the wood until I set the staple depth adjustment all the way up. I couldn’t get it stable. A you tube video on doing the adjustment would be helpful. I couldn’t find any.
So when the tool worked, and after I got comfortable with it, it was sweet. I could shimmy on my knees and place a staple every 3-4” on a 5’ pice of wood in about 10 seconds.
I don’t know if my problems were from the Dewalt nails or an issue with the nailer, but this Dewalt System didn’t work as well as I had hoped. There needs to be better documentation on the height and depth adjustments.
