Our contractor recommended the SunTouch brand for their top quality materials and overall performance. We are using this product in a basement bathroom to improve temperature comfort during the winter months. Michigan winters are especially cold, and this product should improve this lower level bathroom heating. Our contractor has had experience with this floor heating system and has told us that it provides the latest technology with the easiest installation. The wire channels provide for a great method for wire installation, with the membrane laying flat for smooth results. Heating is even and the digital temperature control works seamlessly with a programmable thermostat. This membrane is well made and has great product warranties for 25 years.
Heat Matrix also offers online support for homeowners, which gives me the piece of mind as well. Complete product installation is provided with the product for DIY homeowners.

Finally no more walking onto a frigid bathroom floor in the early morning during IL winters!
I requested this item (which as part of the offer from the vendor included everything needed for the heated floor minus the ceramic floor tiles or grout that goes on top) to give my bathroom a more high-end feel. Before starting the installation, I unpacked everything and made sure I not only had everything I needed, but also checked the quality of the construction of each component so that I could make sure I didn't damage anything during install. I was pleased to find that all components were well made and showed no signs of defects or any wear prior to install.
The only suggestion I could make to the manufacturer is to design the uncoupling mat so that the wire can also travel diagonally to accommodate those who may have walls that are not perpendicular to each other (didn't apply in my case).

Just as the video they show, it is easy to install, its made well and works great. the membrane is very light and sturdy due to its design. Depending on the area you might use more than one sheet and its great that you can just add them to the exact amount needed for your project. It is absolutely awesome, specially for my wife and for people who want to be comfortable with nice heated floors. I really like that I can get more for either ceramic tiles or laminated floors. Ii is also a plus that they do give you a 25 year warranty on the wire and 10 on the membrane, is plenty of time to know that it will last. I got my friend to help me install it and she was so happy for me, she is getting her own for her house. Make sure you also get the thermostat and the wire from SunTouch since you want everything to work at its optimal

I was honestly concerned before I started the new bathroom. The important first step is to read the instructions a number of times, and highlight particular notes for your application. It took time and patience, but the finished results are wonderful. I went with wires spread at 3 inches apart with the mats placed on a base of thin set mortar over 3/4 inch plywood. I have laminate flooring over the heated mats. When it's all said and done, it was worth every moment. It is very versatile especially when cutting the mats for areas around vanities and so on. You will smile each time you step onto the floor. There is nothing better than warm feet, and although this took time for the install, I could not imagine doing it any other way or with any other product.

I put this in a basement bathroom that was at the bottom of the stairs so that the bathroom and the "landing" area when the stairs open to the basement would all be heated. The thermostat is still placed in the bathroom and that seems to work well. The Membrane is SUPER easy to use, it rolls out and having the groves to place the heat wiring into keeps everything tidy. Just follow the directions and make sure you layout your wiring correctly. It took me extra time because I measured wrong the first time and had to pull the wire up to re-route. I also used basement "subfloor" squares. I think you can put it right on concrete, but I wanted the "insulation" and to make sure under floor moisture wasn't a problem.

I wish the whole system was a bit more economical, although it is by a significant amount the most economical such system there is for this specific application.
The HeatMatrix uncoupling membrabe is one of the key components of the SunTouch floor warming system designed to heat kitchens floors, bathroom floors and other living areas. SunTouch makes multiple versions of systems for heating floors, but this is best for use on plywood or OSB indoor subfloors because it includes a vapor management system that blocks mold and mildew growth in your subfloor.
I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of use of the system. The main bar to DIY use is the fact that it's best to run this from a dedicated circuit, like all such systems. Once that electrical work has been done, however, unlike most such systems, there is nothing stopping this being used by a reasonably competent DIYer with some floor tile experience to lay a heated subfloor and add thousands of dollars of value to her or his property.
One of the things I would counsel would be to avoid rubber-tipped or plastic specialty trowels in spreading the mortar for this application. I had very good results cutting down an inexpensive wood trowel to lay down skim coats on the the membrane itself, and I made all grooves with a regular notched trowel away from the membrane on the subfloor and the backs of the tile. I used 12-inch tile and went with a deep-square-notched 1/4 in. x 3/8 in. x 1/4 in. trowel for my mortar application. I (and many installers) typically do the same thing when applying mortar to thickly-laid liquid waterproofing compounds as well. You could theoretically also cut notches into a wood trowel, but I've never tried that.
For the DIYer using this system, it's critically important to watch as many installation videos from as many sources as you want, but to pay particularly close attention to the official video available on the SubTouch site. Don't worry if you're using more mortar than the video details, although you should not use less.
Good luck and don't do anything silly, like cutting the wire to fit or crossing it over itself to save space.

This is a GREAT system! I've tried a few different types of floor heating systems, and this one is the best so far! I love that you can choose where to put your heating wire (others that had wires preinstalled wasted heating elements under vanities, etc..).
This membrane holds the coated blue heating wire in place securely in many different desired configurations (see pics). I also really like the LOUD MOUTH tool that you can attach the heat wire lead lines onto (from the heating element wire package) which will alert you if there's a break in the wire as you insert it onto the membrane. This is fantastic because you never want to complete the job only to find out there's something wrong with the wiring! The Loud Mouth has light indicators and sounds a SUPER LOUD alarm at the time there's a break in power so you know exactly where the issue is! The Loud Mouth product comes with a 9v battery inside unit- you must remove sticker guard on battery and connect to device). It also comes with the mini screwdriver for attaching lead wires from heating element. (see pics)
The SunTouch thermostat has a 7-day programmable setting, "vacation mode", floor sensing control, energy usage monitoring, and has home automation tie-in. The matching "beauty ring" around the thermostat is removable and paintable if desired. It also has multiple color display themes. The thermostat has a three year warranty, Dual voltage(120v/240v), has English/Spanish/French options, GFCI protection, 15 Amp (resistive) relay output and has a 15' long sensor.
All in all, when this membrane is used with the associated heating wire, Loud Mouth alarm, and Thermostat, this product is superior and I would recommend this to anyone wanting a high quality, easy to install, reliable floor warming system!

Wanted heated floor in our master bath and this is the one to pick! The membrane works with the heater wire that gets laid into it at specific spacing depending on the room size. It is all controlled by a thermostat so you have complete control over the comfort levels. There is nothing better than stepping onto a heated floor. After a shower it feels great too. And an added bonus is the heat will rise into the room too. It is easy to cut and shape and install per the easy instruction. It does need a source of power to run at 120V AC for the control. It will raise the floor about 0.25 inches and we made adjustments during our bathroom remodel which was not a big deal. We are enjoying the luxury of a heated floor especially in this really cold weather it is awesome!
