Home Depot free installation is not really free. They raise the pad price. Say, the price for a roll of contractor (270 sf) is $99 (about $0.37/ sf), but if you ask Home Depot to install it, they will charge
$0.99/sf. And you can not provide the pad to the people who would install the carpet for you even this pad is from HD. I don't blame on them because they need to make money. I just want to tell you guys that it is not free.

This pad is definitely better than the less expensive alternative...This pad is definitely better than the less expensive alternative that HD carries. The moisture barrier is a plus. I just wish carpet pad in general was easier to cut cleanly with a utility knife rather than tearing.

6 lb. carpet padThis material is much easier to deal with during installation. Doesn't rip apart nearly as easily as the 5lb. pad, easier to cut without wadding up, and the the end result makes the carpet install feel "Cushy" and I don't feel like I'm walking on carpet with a thin pad underneath. This pad seems to be holding up much better in high traffic areas (stairs) than the old 5lb. pad I used to have. The bonus is that it's recycled material. I would recommend spending the extra dollars for the superior quality.
