Roberts Serenity Polyethylene Foam Underlayment is designed for use under floating laminate and engineered wood flooring. It adds cushioning and compensates for minor imperfections in the subfloor. Serenity can be used alone in above-grade installations and in conjunction with a moisture barrier for below grade.

I have never used underlayment before, nor have I installed this type of flooring before, so I can't compare it to anything. Which shows, I guess that even someone who knows nothing can use it easily. The roll was exactly like the stuff they wrap electronics in. It rips straight in a line in one direction. So it was easy to cut vertically. Horizontally you need scissors for sure, and even then it can tear vertically if you are not careful. I didn't have any issues with it ripping and tearing as I walked on it to lay the floor. It required separate duct tape to seam it. Which was fine. I did notice there are some other brands that may have their own way to seam it, with a sticky strip. I am not sure. I would use it again. The other stuff that costs more didn't appear to be any better to me. This also seemed to even out the floor, which I guess it is meant to do. I didn't give it 5 stars because it isn't the strongest stuff I can imagine. It does however, appear to be more than adequate.

Exceeded my expectationsWe bought really cheap laminate and most underlayments were more per sq ft than the floor. I didn't really expect much for the price, but it turned out awesome. Great noise reduction and cushion. Pretty easy to work with. We didn't tear it at all wearing shoes and being rough. Taping really doesn't make it that much easier, just lay it as you go and not all at once.

Great product for the priceIt is a basic underlayment without a vapor barrier. Just what I was looking for to install a bamboo floor I also purchased through HD.
It doesn't have any tape to attach adjoining pieces but this was fine for my use.
It did come with a small 6 inch long tear on the end. Not really an issue for me since i needed to cut about 1 foot off each roll to fit the room.
