One star is one too many
If someone told me how bad this product is, I don't think I would have believed. This is in no way my first project.
I tried to install a Ditra membrane over cement - total failure. The thinset is nothing but sand with a dash of cement. Zero adhesion. The membrane simply lifted by itself, despite being properly embedded. Fortunately (?) the thinset is so bad that I was able to lift the Ditra sheets with no effort and wash them. $100+ saved.
And the floor? You'd think thinset over cement means perfect bond. Thanks to the unmatched poor quality, I was able to clean it easily and salvage the floor. It's almost like nothing was there.
Bottom line: don't buy it, you will be sorry.
However if you want to build a sandcastle, this is a good choice - although plain sand is about the same, only cheaper.

Works as advertised. Know your purpose.
Thin set/mortar comes in different qualities. Know what your purpose is. Use the right product. I saw the review rating this poorly and had to counter. Complaining that this product, probably using no admixture on top of that, would not stick his new tile on top of other tile? Really? That is NOT what this stuff is for. If you use this for what it is for, it will work as advertised. If you add some latex bonding liquid, you can do a little more. Know your product and your use and this will work just fine! DO NOT think spending $6 for this to do the job of something that needs a $16 product will magically work. It won't. If you are putting tile on a rough concrete floor, on meshed floorboard/plywood, it will work fine. If you are doing tile on tile, you better use something stronger and more bonding! You might try mastic in that case. But you should rough up your base tile first if it has a smooth surface. Good luck!

Terrible for tile adhesion
We installed tile in all three bathrooms using this thinset. We own a tile saw and have done various projects including a kitchen and bathroom for a family member. Saw this on the shelf and the Home Depot employee said it would work for our bathrooms. It was easy to mix with the drill bit and spread easily as well. Within the first year of installation, we started hearing a weird noise like scraping sand whenever we walked on the tile. Large chunks of grout began falling out. We used unsanded grout due to thin grout lines so we thought that was the issue, even though many people told us we could use unsanded on the floor. I spent hours chipping away the old grout in the half bath then grouted with sanded. Not long after the problem is back. I realized it must have been this cheap, sandy thinset. Went to the website and read reviews with the exact same issue. What a waste of time, money, and resources. I'm going to have to completely redo all three bathrooms.

Works great with Ditra. Finished using up a pallet of this stuff and went back for 20 more bags. Instead of it being 6 something a bag they wanted $14 something. The checker could not find this online anywhere in my area, Loveland, CO, I had to come home and order online. Will go back tomorrow and re-load the very same bags they said did not exists. Figure that one?
Must follow Ditra's installation manual or you will be writing a bad review. The stuff get HARD.

Started out using the more expensive blends and changed to the lower priced blends until this one.Preforms as good as the more expensive blends in my opinion. Perhaps using the thinset over time helps develop experience in that regard.

Won't work well with Schluter products
This is a review of the product without the use of admix, as I was working on a pair of projects using Schluter products that call for unmodified thinset. This product on its own has almost zero bond strength even when fully cured. The mix must be a very high sand content with little Portland cement, as it flakes away very easily when dry, and does a very poor job holding the membrane or the tile. After having now compared this product to Custom's higher quality unmodified (called Custom Uncoupling Mat Mortar) and Laticrete 272 (their high quality unmodified thinset) I'm curious why Home Depot doesn't stock one of these far superior products in store. Both the Uncoupling product from Custom and the Laticrete have excellent bond strength and make a world of difference when using Schluter products (either Ditra or Kerdi) so I strongly recommend finding one of these two products and avoiding Custom's budget Customblend. Home Depot will ship the Uncoupling Mat Mortar product to their stores for free, so as long as you don't need the thinset immediately I'd go that route in the future.
