Love the floor. Our 25th anniversary gift to ourselves
Great product. It's not random length. There is exactly 6 12", 10 18", 6 24", & 7 36" pieces in each box. I'm a diy guy. This is my first hardwood floor. Matching up two rooms was quite a time consuming challenge. I found that a butcher knife from the kitchen was instrumental in helping me "cheat" the joints. I spread the out of square alignment over about 10-12 boards allowing the proper alignment between two rooms with no break in the flow and no threshold in the doorway. Please heed the instructions regarding felt pads under your furniture legs. Moving our cedar chest across the installed floor in order to finish the bedroom, I managed to scratch the floor. All part of my learning process. The floor is a wonderful improvement to our home. We will be testing the finish warranty as we have 4 dogs. So far, no problems. The install took longer than I had hoped. I believe this was due to my inexperience and matching up the floor through the doorway. Knowing what I know now, I would buy the same floor.

Very Disappointing
If you have any pets I would definitely NOT recommend this floor. I purchased this flooring partly based on the hardness rating which was a 4 our of 5. I do have a medium sized dog and knew that she would eventually leave scratches and marks. But, I was not prepared for the huge scrapes and gouges! I had my contractor actually put a scratch in a board with his fingernail! He said that he had never seen a hardwood floor do that and even had another rep. from a different flooring company come out to look at it. He agreed that this type of floor should be much stronger and wear better than it was. Needless to say, the floor is all in and does actually look very nice - if you don't look too closely for the scratches! Unfortunately, will have to have this floor sanded and re-finished must sooner than expected.

Buyer Beware - LOOKS ARE NOT EVERYTHING!
I am extremely dissatisfied with my purchase of the Home Legend Hand Scraped Maple Saddle hardwood. However, I must say the appearance is great but that is the only good part about it...
I specifically purchased the flooring not only for looks, but at the recommendation of the Home Depot sales representative for the hardness (4 out of 5) and 55 year warranty.
The hardness and warranty are the worst part. Within weeks, I began to see scratches that went right through the top layer and exposed the inner material. To make matters worse, I had a rolling chair on the hardwood floor with special wheels made for hardwood (keep in mind these wheels received a thousand of 5 star ratings on Amazon) and within months the top coating of the floor began to come off.
Interesting enough, I have a brother that lives in the same building and purchased hardwood from Home Depot around the same time. He has the exact same wheels on his desk chair, which were special wheels meant for hardwood. He has had no issue with his wheels damaging his hardwood flooring while mine has become discolored and torn up the coating. I am baffled to believe that a 160 pound person with appropriate hardwood wheels could damage flooring like this.
When filing a claim, the independent (hmm..) inspector's report stated it did not meet the stipulations of the warranty and after numerous calls/emails to Home Depot and Home Legend, they stated it does not meet the claim eligibility. However, after further review of the Installation Instructions, you will find Home Legend basically suggests that anything more than walking on the floor in your bare feet would violate the warranty.
If you can't use furniture, walk in heels, have pets, etc. on the hardwood without damaging, what is the purpose of this flooring? I dare you to read the Care & Maintenance Instructions that must be followed for them to honor the warranty. You will realize a 55-year warranty means absolutely nothing and they might as well make it a 100-year since it will never cover anything.
Before you buy, check out the pictures (trust me that is not dust in the picture but rather the top coating completely removed) and ask yourself if it is worth thousands of dollars to deal with this headache?

Saddle Maple floating floor
I live in Florida so I got the floating wood floor. I was advised not to purchase the glue in because of the humidity in this area. I only had the floating wood installed in my bedroom I do hear a little creetch in the floor. I love the way it looks and will have the rest of my house completed at a later date with the glue in same color same brand.

Pretty Look but Absolutely Terrible Quality
This was installed in my entire first floor after the original floor we purchased from Home Depot ended up being so terrible they said we couldn't even order that brand again. The original was real Oak - I said to Home Depot that I needed something as strong or stronger than what we originally had - they led me to this product. It looked pretty and was the color I liked and the rating scale for hardness was one of the highest...so we went with it... BIGGEST mistake and waste of $8,000 I ever spent.
If we drop a fork, the floor dents. Someone dropped their keys, the floor dents. Someone drops their phone, the floor dents. Oh and I dropped an empty water bottle and low and behold, the floor dents.
NOT to mention that there are tons of spaces in between each board and anytime a crumb falls, forget about ever getting it out of the floor. I made a complaint to the manufacturer because I believe their hardness rating is misleading and obviously wrong - they replied with a bunch of standard "we don't care" legality.
The only time I would suggest this floor is if you want it in a room you don't "live" in and only look at. It does look nice if you don't notice the space in between each floor board.

Nice Product
I had the floor professionally installed. Took a couple of hours for him. He said it was nice to work with but it lacks longer lengths to break the seams up better. But that had to be pointed out to me. I thought it looked great. There was only a few damaged pieces in the box but I had ordered plenty of extra, so it was really no issue.
