It will get your project doneI understand that QEP line of products is for the home DIYer. Someone that will most likely toss them away after they finish a project, and if that is what you plan to do. Then this is the product for you. Myself personally . A good notch trowel is indispensable. A good trowel can be used over and over again and if this is your first time tiling a floor. You will most like catch the tiling bug after that. Anyway this trowels teeth bend quite easily which makes for uneven motor passes. The abrasions that come along with laying tile will quickly eat through very thin layer of stainless steel. Which will make this trowel very hard to clean and rust quite easily. So by the time your next tiling project comes around the trowel will be useless. If you are someone getting ready to do one tile job for the first time and you know you will never tile again. Then this will be a great trowel for you. It is cheap and works fairly well through one job. If you know there is a future tiling project for you after the current one then opt for a better trowel than this one. Something that you will be able to get much more life out of.

A specialty-size trowelBefore you buy this trowel, you should probably have some significant tiling experience.
I mainly use this trowel, often called a "deep-notch quarter," with premium modified thinset mortar for laying 12 x 12 in. granite or marble floor tile. In general, for ceramic or porcelain tile of this size with ridges or a waffle pattern on the back, I prefer the standard 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 ("quarter" or "regular quarter") trowel. To anyone who's been trained to hold the trowel at an approximate 45 degree angle to make the passes that create the notches for a thinset mortar bed, slightly varying the angle to increase or decrease the amount of mortar being laid down, this trowel will add just a bit more mortar than the regular quarter. That makes it very useful for the getting a little bit extra on tricky marble or granite installations.
But again, it's a specialty item. If you find yourself habitually holding your trowel at maybe 30 degrees when you make your notching passes, you should probably modify your technique with the regular quarter rather than buy this trowel.
I also really like this trowel because it's a bit lighter than others like it I've used and does very nicely for careful work on the backs of really expensive tile.
