I needed to repair some rot on the bottom rail of my sliding glass door. After removing the loose wood and applying wood hardener, I used Bondo Wood Filler to fill in the space left by the rotten wood. I had used Bondo body filler on some car repairs in the past so I had some idea what to expect. I applied several relatively thin layers until I had built up the area to the same level as the good wood. I then sanded it smooth and glued the aluminum cladding back on. Sanding was very easy. The biggest problem I had was that the working time of the Bondo after mixing in the hardener seemed to be really short. The directions were clear, better than another brand, but I only had about two minutes to apply after mixing before the Bondo started to get very stiff. I had to work in really small batches. Could have been the hot, humid weather. I did this about a month ago and everything seems to be holding up well. Overall I was able to accomplish what I wanted to with this product.

I cut out a section of silk oak flooring (highlighted in yellow in the attached photograph) that was damaged by drywood termites. I filled the void with Bondo Wood Filler and sanded it down. Next, I spotted the surface with a permanent Magic Marker of the appropriate color to match the darker areas of the wood. I, then, smeared the ink in the direction of the wood grain with a cloth saturated with acetone. Finally, I sprayed the surface with clear, matte finish, polyurethane. No one knows the floor was ever damaged.

Bondo allowed me to patch and repaint rather than replace the entire door jamb. Easy to sand yet strong. Use gloves and ventilate. Dog is now on anti-anxiety meds and crated when I'm gone-lol!
