An assortment of 2 in. hexagonal marble chips forms this mesh-mounted mosaic, infusing your space with a clean look and contemporary flair. The mixed-sheen, mixed-finished 12 in. x 12 in. tiles from MSI add definition to any residential or commercial expanse, displaying beautifully as kitchen backsplash or bath flooring. Also a splendid choice for shower surround or fireplace facade, its neutral gray and beige tones fabulously complement almost any decor. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer.

I read the reviews prior to ordering, so I was prepared and very happy with the end results. The tile arrived on time and none were broken. The tone at the time in the tile was straight up gray. I did not seal it, as many have recommended, because the tile I was trying to coordinate with had beige undertones. Once I grouted, the porous stones took on the same hue as my grout and I was able to achieve the look that I was going for.
In regards to grouting this tile, it is not a simple job or for those that don't like putting a little bit of elbow grease into the wiping excess grout part off. Work in very small sections and don't let it sit too long (think 12" sections) Do not let the grout sit for more than 30 minutes or you will be scrubbing it off a little longer, as this tile has many variations in texture and the grout likes to stick in the little crevices.
I am very happy with how this turned out, and am really glad that it was just the floor of a small shower we were doing ;)

After installing tiles, I realized the tiles were from two different dye lots,It become very obvious as two sections form a rectangle that stood out from the rest of floor; even though the tiles were in the same box. Very, Very disappointed in the quality. Now I am forced to remove individual tiles by hand and spend MORE money to replace the ones that are too dark. I showed a picture of the floor to the "tile expert" at my local store and he could offer no help or reason the tiles turned so dark, other than a "wow! those were from the same box?"

Seal them first and they'll stay Grey!
Like you, I wanted these tiles for their grey appearance but read the reviews about them turning beige after grouting.
So I decided to conduct my own test. I bought a single 12x12 square and cut it into 3 sections (see picture - note the 'yellow' tinted picture is with no flash and the 'white' tinted picture is with flash for color comparison)
Control: no sealer
Test #1: 1 dip (full submersion) in 511 Impregnator sealer
Test #2: 2 dips (full submersion) in 511 Impregnator sealer with a few days in between
The results are below using Mapei mortar and Mapei Keracolor Sanded Grout (Silver Arent Plata) otherwise known as "grey".
The Control turned beige at the grout joints and definitely changed color. Test #1 and Test #2 both stayed grey/white and retained their in-store colors. It almost looks like Test #1 is whiter than Test #2 which doesn't make much sense - but the difference between the two is so small I would say a single dip in 511 Impregnator Sealer (by Miracle Sealants Company) is enough. No second dip necessary.
I have just finished this test today and have not yet installed these in my shower floor - but that is the plan. I wanted to confirm they'd retain their in-store color before purchasing & laying them down. Myth confirmed!
Hope this helps you make your decision!

Extremely difficult to grout
We feel in love with this tile, the install went well...then I had to grout it. I've done many tile jobs before, I'd say I'm a novice. The trouble with this tile is that there are 3 different tile surfaces, some smooth, rough and grooved. I used pre mixed grout from Home Depot and grouted the tile. I immediately began removing the grout with a sponge. The smooth tiles wouldn't release the grout, it sucked up the color. It was more than 'haze'. The whole area had a grey haze over the tile. I regretfully used a haze remover and scrubbed the tile to remove the grout. It took a lot of work except it turned the tiles brown. In the end I guess it makes sense since the tile in person are shades of grey and off while, but the in store display and this website pictures shows lots of tans and browns. Makes me think I'm not alone in having issues with grout haze. All in I spent close to $300 on materials which I may rip out since the look is now completely off.

Beautiful tile. Need to be careful when grouting. Need to use some grout release product before grouting. Grout sticks firmly to tile. Had to work hard to clean grout off tile.

Avoid These Tiles
We purchased the tile based on their color on the shelf, not the color on the outside of the box. That was the first mistake. The tile was easy to lay, because the they are sized very close to the design specs. Then came the grout...and our second mistake. The packing material for the tile did not contain "special installation instructions" or warnings specific to this particular tile, so we grouted the tiles the same way we did our 10+ other successful tiling projects. The tiles immediately started to suck the water out of the grout, making it virtually impossible to smooth the paste into the gaps. We waited 10 minutes before attempting to wipe away the excess grout with a damp sponge, but by then the grout was already too firm to come off. My wife spent over three hours on her hands and knees trying to get the excess grout off with the damp sponge, but to no avail. I ended up removing the excess grout with a wood chisel. Had I known, I would have sealed the tiles before grouting, but I didn't know what I don't know...and the flooring department associates didn't say anything about it, either.
And then, there's the color change. I don't know if using "white" grout would prevent the tiles from turning brown/tan, but "bone" grout changed the tile color significantly. The tiles now have the same appearance as the picture on the front of the box...
Home Depot's customer service advised me to contact the grout manufacturer, who, as it turns out, assumes no liability for color or dye variations. And the technical data sheet (accessible on the internet if you know where to look) also states that porous tiles may need to be sealed prior to grouting.
So, there you have it; it's nobody's fault but yours if you fail to read the cleverly hidden fine print...that definitely makes me think twice before I seek Home Depot's advice and guidance on my next DIY project.
