Cal-Flor's SilverStep underlayment is folded in an accordion style to speed up the installation process by lying flat and not curling or re-rolling. This underlayment has a printed grid on top, which makes laying and trimming to fit a room easier. SilverStep's cross-linked (closed cell) foam provides superior protection from both moisture and sound (noise) sources (IIC 72; STC 66). The extra thick pad provides good thermal insulation properties and makes it especially suited for subfloors with a rougher than normal finish. This underlayment can be used on radiant heat floors.

I've laid a lot of laminate flooring and I'm always looking for something better to make installation easier. I saw this Silverstep foam underlayment and I thought I'd give it a try.
When installing laminate flooring, I always use a good foam underlayment. I've used the roll of underlayment and it works good, but trying to line up the pieces and glue the edges is sometimes tricky. The accordian style packaging interested me. Maybe a slight rigidity would be helpful?
This product works great! The rigidity helps keep the lines straight and the glued edges are easy to line up. The foam is good quality and feels good under foot.
This is an improvement over the roll of underlayment. I'm pleased to say that I can give this product a five star rating and I highly recommend it.

I remodeled our basement office and pulled up the old industrial type carpet only to find that it had been getting some moisture on the back from being in direct contact with the slab. I new I needed something to act as a vapor barrier and thermal break so I thought I would try this. After leveling and sealing the slab I was able to quickly cut and install this material. The seams have tape to help with the install and lock out moisture. I went over all the seams with exterior grade vapor barrier tape just to be sure nothing would permeate. I sealed the edge with acoustic sealant and installed 5mm underlayment on top. This should provide a much warmer floor without the potential for mold or mildew.

Premium Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam Underlayment & Moisture Barrier which I hoped to use for placing under a laminate floating floor. In addition to that I was hoping to place it under some snap planks of Vinyl for a bathroom .
When the underlayment arrived it was damaged but give the nature of the product its not such a big deal but still it was half open which is not a great start.
The product itself seems to be made ok with the film being consistent but I found the foam not to be very dense and I wonder how long it would hold up.
The issue I have with this product is when I compare it to another premium product that a national discount flooring place sells that I have used many times. The film on the silverstone is of much thinner quality and no where near the durability of the other products. Same can be said of the padding itself.
This is a lower priced Premium underlayment but when you spend a lot of money for what goes on top of this, I will opt to spend some more on the underlayment to not be penny wise pound foolish.
I would say this is a good product for a lower use area but I would not use it in a heavily trafficked area or with a heavy flooring on top of it.

Premium Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam Underlayment & Moisture Barrier is delivered in undamaged condition. I love this color, product materials and moisture barrier. I use it for my attic has always high moisture content and install successfully for engineering wood floating floor. As a DIY project installation was easy both the underlayment and the floor. I love the product and it reduce my moisture in attic. Now I have to replace my one windows to get full control of moisture. As cost the product is worth.

That said, I have fought with the less expensive rolls of foam underlayment in the past but needed a bit more assurance of the sound dampening characteristic in this application. The jury is still out but with initial observations it would seem this does significantly isolate the sound of the footsteps compared to what I've used before. I did appreciate how it facilitated installation by laying flat and didn't tear when not making your steps careful.

The 1/8" thick pad definitely cushions the laminate. The manufacturer claims that it insulates as well, and I agree as far as temperature comfort. The laminate is also more quiet with this underlayment. The underlayment comes shoddily wrapped in very cheap clear plastic, which is more likely to be torn than not. But the fan-fold underlayment was not damaged despite the lack of packaging.

Premium Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam Underlayment & Moisture Barrier is a great value for those not looking to spend a ton on underlayment. Some of them can be more than the laminate itself. I installed this in my son's room under a laminate I purchased from Home Depot as well. This is only the second underlayment I've dealt with, and this was a lot easier to use then the previous underlayment I installed. The floors feel fine after installation, no noise or creaking. It was a floating laminate I installed.

We've been really pleased with the quality and ease of...We've been really pleased with the quality and ease of installation with the CalFlor SilverStep underlayment. Much easier to deal with than the rolled up type and the thickness matched the comparable Pergo product at a great discounted price.
