The Roberts Universal Tapping Black is designed to easily complete your installation of resilient vinyl tile, laminate and hardwood planks by lightly tapping the tongue and groove boards together for a tight uniform fit. This unique multi-sided tapping black has one side that works with vinyl tile and one side that works with hardwood planks and laminate flooring. It protects your flooring tongue or edge from damage during installation leading to a perfect floor installation.

You need this when you are installing vinyl plank flooring. Do not try to save money and make due with a piece of wood. You must tap the planks together to get a tight fit. If you use something other than this product, which is made for the specific tongue-and-groove, then you probably will mash the tongues of the planks. I say "probably" because I used this product and did not mash any of the tongues on the planks. You can also turn the block sideways to tap the ends of the vinyl planks together. You do not need the special hammer. A regular claw hammer works sufficiently well.

no alternativeI Used this on lifeproof vinyl. It worked ok, but you have to apply a lot of downward force to keep it from popping off and chipping the side of the planks. Its also poorly cast. My first one disintegrated after one room. The plastic was full of air bubbles which were trappes during the moulding process resulting in a weak product. Unfortunately i couldnt find a readily available alternative. Plan on buying several if you have a large project

9 1/4" too long for laminates/planks adjacent & running parallel with walls ...... probably will ...9 1/4" too long for laminates/planks adjacent & running parallel with walls ...... probably will need to buy two, one for cutting in half or thirds, especially if running planks length wise through long halls Better idea: if manufacturer made longer blocks where you could cut off narrower lengths ....but made this way you have to buy two

Overall good product. The whole thickness should be at least 1/4 wider though to have more thickn...Overall good product. The whole thickness should be at least 1/4 wider though to have more thickness to hit with the hammer head. Like the double and single sides. Allowed my vinyl laminate to be hit from either side.

The tapping block did not work well with the design...The tapping block did not work well with the design of the groove on the flooring and caused some minor blemishes. Wound up using scrap piece of flooring as a tapping block.

This little block has groves on the side that fits the flooring and makes it much easier and quic...This little block has groves on the side that fits the flooring and makes it much easier and quicker to tap the flooring in place.
