360 sq. ft. Felt Cushion Underlayment Roll - Product information

The Roberts 70-193 super felt premium underlayment is a 4 mm thick insulating underlayment made to reduce noise and help cushion flooring. By absorbing noise instead of deflecting it, super felt provides a deep, rich sound. This felt underlayment is made from recycled fibers and compressed using a high heat manufacturing process. The film overlay protects engineered and laminate flooring from any moisture from the subfloor and includes an adhesive strip and 1-3/4 in. overlap for linking multiple rolls.

  • For use with engineered wood and laminate flooring
  • Made from heat treated, recycled fibers
  • 60 in. x 72 ft. roll provides 360 sq. ft. of coverage
  • Provides good cushioning over concrete and wood subfloors
  • Includes adhesive strip and 1-3/4 in. overlap for linking rolls
  • Provides deep, rich sound by absorbing sound instead of deflecting it
  • Keeps floors warmer in winter and cooler in summer
  • Impact sound transmission test (IIC) rating of 67

Terrific underlayment
This underlayment was well worth the extra money. It has added a bit of insulation for us - we have a tongue and groove subfloor in a very old house so it's a big deal in our house. Also in an old house, the floors are not level (and walls are not square) so this material was a bit more forgiving with the imperfections. It was super easy to work with - I had a child and a dog running around on it the whole time I was installing the floor and the moisture barrier withstood a beating. I'm not sure what issue others faced with it being easily torn, but I found it to be VERY strong and super easy to work with. I'll use this product in the future.
Also, there is a flap of moisture barrier that attaches to an adhesive strip on the next row of laminate as you put it down. It is easy to do and VERY convenient to keep the material from sliding around during installation.

Good/straight forward product for the price
I purchased this product because I needed about 320 sq-ft of underlayment and it was just a little more than the amount I needed and cost less than buying 100 sf-ft roles. Plus it's larger so it's easier to cover the floor. It qualified for free shipping and came right to my door. Only problem was the outer plastic was ripped, most likely by the mail company. Fortunately there was no rain that day or it might have been ruined. So be careful when you order to be there when it's delivered.
The material was easy to role out, the adhesive strip and overlap seam where convenient and I used clear packaging tape to seal together regions that I cut that didn't have the overlap or adhesive.
One thing, I tried to cut the role with a box cutter style knife, but it didn't work well. I found that a good pair of regular hand scissors worked best and I didn't have any trouble from the metal material inside the role.
Oh just be sure to put the role green/plastic side up, or look at the instructions which are printed on the opposite side of the cardboard label. That reminds me, don't throw out the cardboard label.
Also common scenes sweep/vacuum the floor before putting out the underlayment, a small little rock can be dramatically felt through the material.

I was looking for an underlayment for my new laminate flooring that would act as a sound dampener. This did the job. It was very easy to lay down and had a tape strip to join each row. Was reasonable price for 360 sq. ft

Too thick and soft. ( installed under 5x36 inch engineered hardwood )
We recently put this down in a few rooms over the weekend and began to lay the wood over top soon afterwards. After getting about halfway through the first room I noticed the floor sounded very creaky and felt very spoungy. I ran back to the store and picked up some 2mm foam underlayment just to test the difference and it was much better. We pulled up this felt underlayment and ordered something else.
I find it odd that every review is glowing and nobody else has issues with the floor feeling like mushy carpet. Maybe more people preview a very soft feel to their wood floors

DOES A NICE JOB
I use this padding in my four apartments when I install any carpet. I prefer this felt to the foam padding for a few reasons: 1. It makes the rug more firm under foot without the 'give' that foam has. 2. with that firmness, furniture will leave less of a deep footprint. 3. the foam tends to break down in time releasing an unpleasant odor and/or a fine powder like dust that tends to make its way through the carpet. 4. it doesn't dry out and shrink. 5. it stays in place with just a few staples. 6. if something spills on it, it will dry out faster. 7. When the governments' mint makes currency paper they use 'felt' like fibers to keep the bills intact and make them last ... they don't use foam!
Works for me!
Also as the one review stated, have a few extra razor knife blades because you need a real sharp blade to cut this right.
Remember: dull blades = injuries. Reason being you are excessively forcing the tool to make the cut.
Use a 1" x 2" X 6ft piece of wood for the straight edge when you cut it with a razor knife. If you use a flat piece of metal or plastic, the blade may 'hop up' on your straight edge while you pull it and stick into you! (experience talking). A strong pair of sissors works good too.
I'm heading out today to see if the local HD's have any on the shelf - some do carry it. I'm going to do an install tomorrow in fact.

Decent underlayment - Good buy
Overlap strips were key. Laid out rather easy - didn't really bunch up much. Quite sturdy to walk on.. read reviews of other products where it tore easily - this certainly does not. In fact, I wouldn't count it as a negative, but make sure you have a good angled razor blade with at least 7 or 8 extra blades. The underlayment has light metal threading that runs through the material. This obviously adds strength, but kills your razor blades when cutting to fit.
I installed 300 sq/ft and used about every inch of this roll with nothing left over.
