A Really Beautiful Floor Despite a Couple of Small Quality Control Issues
Our maple hardwood floor came out great. We had to watch carefully as we installed because a few of the planks were just not cut square on the ends. There was a surprising amount of variation in the width as well, considering that we understood this to be a top-quality product. There were also a few handling scars from where someone in the factory apparently just got careless.
But, a handful of bum boards in over 400 square feet of flooring isn't that bad, and most of the time we could trim the end and then use that board at one end of a row. Only a very few were worthless.
The stain and clear finish were consistently well-done. Board thickness was consistent, as were the tongue and groove interfaces. We followed instructions for sub-floor preparation and installation and came out with a beautiful squeak-free final product. We had ordered one box more than the calculated minimum to cover our floor, so we didn't worry about setting aside the shortest boards or any that had questionable spots.

I ordered this flooring to match the 33 cases that I bought a month earlier. The 15 cases did not look anything like the first order which matched the sample piece exactly. They were, however, labeled "Timber Trail". The manufacturer must have put the wrong label on the boxes. So, I called Home Depot and was told that they would call a shipping company to pick the 15 cases up. They said it would take 5 days to schedule the pickup. 10 days later I rented a van and hired some help to return 15 cases of wrong color flooring to the store. Not a good experience!
If you order flooring, make sure you open the cases to see whether they actually match the sample piece at the store!

Would not buy again
After looking at hundreds of flooring choices we decided on this. I thought how could we go wrong with solid maple and I loved the color. We move frequently - 10x in 12 years and most have had solid oak and once we purchased solid maple and had them finished a medium brown. I really loved the solid maple b/c it was durable and looked great so I thought these prefinished maple floors were the way to go. At first the floors looked beautiful. It hasn't even been a month and these floors are terrible. I want to tear them out and put in anything else. They get deep scratches easily and every time something falls off of the kitchen counter the floor dents. When it dents, you see the light color so it is very noticeable. I bought some of the acrylic filler which is ok for the larger dents but the scratches are awful. We have 4 kids and 2 dogs but never had any issues with our other solid oak or maple flooring.

We bought 22 boxes of Bruce's Country Natural Maple 5 inch solid hardwood. We removed our carpet and trim, moved all of our furniture out. It took hours of labor and not to mention the time it took to bring in 22 boxes of hardwood. Our installers came to install the floor and 30% of the boards were either cupped, dented, scratched or split. They also sent two different lots. Our installer stated this is one of the worst quality products that he has seen and he has installed tons of wood floors. The floor was also very soft and it dented and scratched easily. The installer stated the the Maple was probably Southern grown instead of Northern Maple. Home Depot did refund our money however we are now left with plywood floors for another month until we can order another floor. It will not be Bruce! Would not recommend this product to anyone.

Numerous damaged pieces and sharp color contrasts
There were numerous damaged pieces in the boxes, including improperly stained pieces. Too many dark pieces compared to the contrasting lighter maple.

3/4" bruce flooring and special trim & 3/8" Bruce Engineerred flooring and special trim
The 3/4" Bruce flooring was installed on stairs as an upgrade to carpeted stairs. The quality of the materials was good and there were a few damaged pieces. The fitting of the pieces (T&G joints) was average with some mis-manufactured pieces that had to be discarded. The installation of flooring on stairs is somewhat less expensive than prefinished stair treads - but much more labor intensive and difficult to install due to the variation in the flooring pieces. The 3/8" engineered flooring was of good quality and most of the snap together pieces preformed as advertised. The color match was close between the 3/4" flooring at the 3/8" engineered flooring. Overall I was pleased with the final appearance of the job - but the manufacturing of the flooring could have been better.

I recently installed an off-brand hardwood floor in a room, and almost immediately noticed the difference in terms of how quickly the floor became scratched. Bruce floors retain their finish, particularly if you have a large energetic dog running around the house.
