Description

Handscraped Strand Woven Driftwood 1/2 in. x 5-1/8 in. Wide x 72-7/8 in. Length Solid Bamboo Flooring (25.93 sq.ft/case) - Product information

Beautifully colored in a smooth, neutral tone, the Handscraped Strand Woven Driftwood Solid Bamboo Flooring from Home Decorators Collection is sealed with a 7-layer aluminum oxide finish that protects against everyday wear. This product has achieved FLOORSCORE Indoor Air Quality Certification and has been tested for more than 10,000 volatile organic compounds, including formaldehyde, to meet these standards. The tongue and groove profile allows the flooring to be installed on and above grade, while the handscraped design is sculpted by hand to create vivid texture and unique richness of characteristics in each plank, offering elegant style for any room of your home. An existing home should have a consistent room temperature of 65°F - 75°F and relative humidity (RH) of 35% - 55%. Continual deviation from these conditions will affect the dimensions of flooring (see installation guide for more details).

Just beautiful
We decided to change out our laminate flooring for strand woven bamboo. The previous floor was a lighter color, Brazilian Cherry, and I realized I wanted a darker wood. The espresso is gorgeous. My husband is still installing the floor since he is installing it into three separate rooms with two hallways. He is still surprised at the ease of installation.
After we had read and heard about the Janka score of the strand woven bamboo we realized we needed a hardwood floor nailer. So we purchased one and my husband started. He soon realized he needed a stronger brad nailer because the one we had was too small. We needed one that could drive a two inch nail. Overall, everything is going well and we are looking forward to being able to enjoy our new floor.
Just note, anyone who is purchasing this floor should realize it is harder than typical hardwood flooring and you should probably have a carbite tipped blade. It makes the job easier and produces a cleaner cut.

Beautiful wood floor
We love our new floor! It was our first solid hardwood floor install. There was a learning curve but once we got the hang of it, it went smoothly. The quality of this floor is beautiful. The color is a modern soft slightly grey/brown/tan finish that is gorgeous! It is an extremely hard floor and has a hard durable finish. I have a large dog (104 pounds) that can't scratch it!!! My floors in the rest of the house that were twice the cost show many scratches. I plan to use this throughout the rest of the second floor in my home. We are looking at building a new house and I plan to use this floor exclusively. I would highly recommend this floor. We had a few dinged edges on some of the boards that we used for ends that had to be trimmed anyways. Very little waste. Some of the boards had some small chips or splinters that can easily be filled with wood filler and stained with min wax 1/2 weathered oak and 1/2 classic grey. Very happy customer!
Would buy this floor again and again.

This is the second time we have used this flooring. We couldn't be happier. The first application was in kitchen, and living/dining area, this one in our bedroom. The color is beautiful and the bamboo was our first preference, due to warranty, the slightly distressed appearance(we have dogs though they have not damaged the flooring). We did the kitchen two years ago and it looks as great as it did in the first day.

Fantasic floor!
I am very pleased with the quality and price of this flooring. Knowing that it is all natural I expected the occasional flaw in some boards but that turned out to be less than a few out of 31 cases! Most of those were able to be used anyway due to random cuts. The floor is surprisingly hard and after putting felt pads on all the furniture I found things glide easily with no marks. I used the Bruce cleaning solution and pad after the installation was done and the floor just glows. Plus it compliments the porcelain tile I had installed just a few weeks earlier. The only issue is the t-strip to join the two is on back order. I used the local Home Depot install crew and they could not have been nicer, neater, or more professional.

We got samples of a number of bamboo-based flooring products from several retailers. Home Depot had an acceptable color and this flooring had gone on sale, making it about 30% lower in price than another competitor product. So we went with it.
It took a few days for it to come in, and we hauled all 400sqft, about 1400lbs of boxes into the target room so we could begin the acclimation period (we let it acclimate for over 2 weeks).
Installation was honestly a breeze. We installed it over a high-quality underlayment, and went with a "floating" installation, gluing all the tongues and grooves together, but refraining from nailing. Fully installed, the floor looks great. Despite a few abuses (moving some furniture around mostly, and occasionally inadvertently dropping a tool on it as we were installing) the flooring came away unscathed and looks beautiful.
It has now been installed for just over two weeks in a master bedroom, bathroom and closet suite. The look is great. "Handscraped" may be a slight misnomer, as there is a definite repeating pattern in the "scrapes", but perhaps I'm being a bit nitpicky.
Overall, there was VERY little waste. We added 10% to our square footage (standard practice to account for 10% reject and cutting waste) and had three unopened boxes of flooring left over. We just didn't have any bad boards in the 15 (out of 18) boxes we opened and installed.
The floor definitely has a noticeable odor to it. It is diminishing slowly over time, but even sitting in the boxes the smell was so prevalent it almost knocked us over the first few nights. Now, two weeks post-install, we still smell it when we enter the room. Hopefully it will go away, as I have no clue what chemicals we're inhaling all night long at the moment. For now, it still smells.
Comparing the quality of this floor to competitors' more expensive product, I'd say "you get what you pay for". These boards are INCREDIBLY splinter-ridden. I needed the dexterity, so avoided using gloves, but I must have pulled at least 10-15 splinters out of my hands through the course of installation. None of the other vendor samples had any splinters, and all edges including the tongues had been nicely sanded on the competing product. They were very rough and un-sanded on the Home Decorators product. Other product we received as samples had no noticeable odor. These stunk.
Would I recommend this brand/model of floor to a friend? Maybe. Maybe not. If that friend had a very limited budget, and was willing to put up with splinters and odor, then probably yes. But we're about to do all the main home areas in our house (another 1200sq ft on the main floor) and we'll be going with a more expensive brand next time. For our needs, we would not buy this again.

Dye lot issue
I needed 92 boxes of this material to complete a project, it was delivered on two pallets. Each pallet had a different production date. The dye lot shift between the two production runs was so drastic it looked like two completely different products.

More handgouged than handscraped
Almost half the boards had areas where the finish was missing. We cannot lay them for fear of splinters and no way to properly clean and sanitize.

terrible terrible terrible
Stay away. This product is awful. Flooring is splintering all over and scratches very very easily. Wish there was a zero star option. Manufacturer is also a nightmare to deal with. Highly disaapponted with overall experience. I have been working with the warranty department for over 2 months and still dont have a resolution.
